The ICA Commission on Map Projections (CMP) was established at the 21st International Cartographic Conference in Durban, South Africa in August 2003, following an official approval of its proposed Terms of Reference at the 13th General Assembly of the ICA.
In the past two terms (2003–2007, 2007–2011), CMP activities have been coordinated by Daan Strebe, Mapthematics LLC (Chair, 2003-2011), Frank Canters, Vrije Universiteit Brussels (Co-Chair, 2003-2011), Fritz Kessler, Frostburg State University (Secretary, 2003-2007) and E. Lynn Usery, US Geological Survey (Secretary, 2007-2011).
The new Terms of Reference were approved at the 15th General Assembly of the ICA in August 2011 at the 25th International Cartographic Conference in Paris, where the new CMP Chairman Miljenko Lapaine, University of Zagreb, and Vice Chairman E. Lynn Usery were appointed.
The CMP Operational Plan, which was based on the Terms of Reference, set goals for the CMP for the next four years. The report will present the CMP Operational Plan, describe what was done in one year and explain future tasks and planned activities.
